Camaroon | Flag Camaroon | Political map Camaroon

The republic of Cameroon gets its life from its capital city Yaounde, which is also the heart of the nation owing to its strong economy and yielding power of many useful goods, crops, and industries. Being a city in the continent of Africa, the city lies close to the equator, and almost 700 metres above sea level, and has a hilly terrain, which adds to the natural beauty of the place.
The city at a glance
The city of Yaounde is very well planned with most of the important organizations and office buildings of the nation in it. It is also the second largest city of the nation. Architectural fans will get a lot of feast for their eyes here, as the city is adorned with stylish office buildings of all types and designs. If you are planning to visit the rest of the country and other places and neighbouring countries around, you will get permit and visas from the government office at the centre of the city.
Important places in the city
If you visit the Bastos neighbourhood, you will find the native civilians of the nation residing in most houses, and there are also the embassies of the different countries. In the Etoudi neighbourhood, there is the presidential palace.
There are various points of interest in the city, mostly comprising of important buildings that has been a part of the rich past and the heritage of the city. The most important buildings of the city are:
The Cathédrale Notre Dame des Victoires is the seat of the Archdiocese of Yaounde
You will see the Basilique Marie-Reine-des-Apotres at the place where the first church of the city was built.
Then there is the Art Museum of Cameroon

Another very interesting spot of interest which is at a little distance from the city is an NGO named Ape Action Africa. Great Apes are rescued and rehabilitated by this NGO, as because these animals are in danger of getting extinct because of poaching and unfriendly habitat.
Climate of Yaounde
Normally all other cities and towns in Africa experiences a tropical wet climate. But Yaounde is different. Here the rainy season continues from February to November with a strange trait of greatly reduced precipitation in July and August. This will give a notion as if there are two rainy seasons for the city separated by a dry spell. The long rains and relatively cool climate because of the altitude of the city gives it a tropical wet and dry climate.
Transportation in Yaounde
Transport in and around the city is easy with active rail, road and air networks. There are two airports in the city; one for the civilians, and another for the military. Road network is good, but due to heavy traffic often passengers meet accidents in busy streets. However, with a well knit transportation and nice weather, the city welcomes many tourists from different parts of the world.
