Jaswant Thada

Jaswant Thada Temple at Jodhpur
Jaswant Thada Temple Beautifully carved with white marble stone, with the attractive green door. This is Indian architecture.

From the Mehrangarh fort at hilltop in Jodhpur, one can catch a glimpse of the enthralling Jaswant Thada, a brilliant piece of architecture executed on white marbles. After completing the trip to Mehrangarh fort, one can head for Jaswant Thada which is actually a cenotaph built in the memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II of Jodhpur. Jaswant Singh's son Maharaja Sardar Singh made the endeavor of constructing the cenotaph in 1899 to honor his parents' memory and added another jewel to the treasure trove of brilliant architectural works of Rajasthan.

Jaswant thada inside

The lovely Jaswant Thada looks like a temple but it is the cremation ground of the kings and queens of Jodhpur. Besides the main cenotaph, there are other sections dedicated to the queens who committed self immolation on the pyre of the king. Jaswant Thada, with its ornamented sculptures, delicately designed domes, intricately curved pillars, is the perfect example of the grand Rajput style of architecture.
India

The latticework on the white marble dazzle the eyes as the sun rays dance across the surface; the exquisite artwork on the wall illustrates the talent and skill of the artisans; the series of portraits inside the cenotaph tells the lineage of the royals of Jodhpur and the memorial itself stands as an example of the glorious days of Rajput royals.

Jharokha

Besides the main structure, there are the muti-tiered garden with a small lake, finely carved gazebos and beautiful dome shaped structures called chatris.

Jaswant Thada has been a landmark of Jodhpur and is one of the reason for the flocking of tourists in the blue city.
